EA Sports revives Fight Night boxing franchise as PIF completes EA acquisition

EA Sports announced on social media that Fight Night is returning after 15 years. No release date, platforms or further details were disclosed. The announcement follows the recent completion of EA's £41 billion sale to PIF. EA reportedly shifted focus to UFC after boxing licensing fees became unsustainable.

PIF's boxing promotion network surrounds the revival
PIF subsidiary Sela promotes major Riyadh Season fights including Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford.
Sela also staged Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn and Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua.
Turki Alalsheikh, who leads Riyadh Season production, announced the Fight Night news on X.
Yahoo reports the new game will feature fighters tied to Zuffa Boxing and Alalsheikh.

Boxing's licensing fragmentation pushed EA toward UFC in 2011
EA shifted focus to UFC after Fight Night Champion, citing rising athlete likeness licensing fees.
EA could agree one blanket deal for all UFC athletes, unlike boxing's per fighter negotiations.
"I've got this little Fight Night idea which I've pitched to EA Sports." - Eddie Hearn, Boxing Promoter
Rival game Undisputed already holds exclusive licenses for Muhammad Ali, Oleksandr Usyk and Deontay Wilder.

Fight Night's revival has stalled before
Insider Gaming reported in September that earlier revival plans were canceled about a year earlier.
A 2021 attempt, codenamed Moneyball, was paused while EA Canada built UFC 5.
EA has announced franchise returns without detail before, as with College Football and College Basketball.
College Basketball never shipped after EA failed to secure exclusive deals with participating schools.
What this means
For Publishers & Developers: Lock remaining unsigned elite boxers into exclusive likeness deals before owner-aligned promoters consolidate the roster pool.
For Investors & VC: Re-price independent boxing-sim valuations against a rival holding owner-controlled fighter access.
