Nintendo's Pritchard outlines Switch 2 strategy as Call of Duty returns after a decade
Summary
Devon Pritchard, Nintendo of America's president, says Switch 2's youth gives Nintendo an edge over Xbox and PlayStation.
Switch 2 has sold over 23 million units since its June 2025 launch.
Activision will launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 this fall.
Pritchard declines to confirm whether GTA VI will come to Switch 2.
01
Hardware upgrade reopens the door for mature AAA titles
Pritchard credits Switch 2's stronger graphics and processing power for new third-party opportunities.
Activision is bringing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to Switch 2 this fall.
It is the franchise's first Nintendo release in more than a decade.
"That opens up a number of different ways for the developers to create experiences that can only be found on Nintendo Switch 2."
02
Portfolio breadth spans family and mature audiences
Nintendo has shipped hundreds of Switch 2 titles across genres and ratings.
Examples range from family racer Mario Kart World to horror title Resident Evil Requiem.
Role-playing game Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave and cozy title Pokemon Pokopia add further range.
"We have historically said that Nintendo is for ages 5 to 95, and that continues to be true."
03
Third-party AAA decisions still rest with publishers
Pritchard will not confirm Grand Theft Auto VI's arrival on Switch 2.
The M-rated title, due in November, is gaming's most anticipated release this year.
"That's going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time."
The response shows hardware parity alone does not secure third-party commitments.
What this means
For Publishers & Developers: Greenlight Switch 2 ports of mature-rated action back catalog, budgeting performance optimization upfront.
For Service Vendors: Pitch Switch 2 porting and optimization to mid-tier publishers holding M-rated multiplatform catalogs.
For UA & Marketing: Front-load Switch 2 holiday campaigns before November tentpoles inflate attention costs.
