Studio Atelico launches Atelico AI Engine into Early Access, removing cloud dependencies

Studio Atelico opened Early Access for the Atelico AI Engine. The engine runs AI locally instead of relying on cloud servers. Atelico says on-device processing removes recurring server costs and network latency. The engine already powers Bobium Brawlers, Atelico's debut game, now in closed beta.

On-device design removes recurring cloud costs for NPC AI
The engine runs on Unity, Unreal Engine and Godot across Windows, macOS, iOS and Linux.
Developers can run inference on either GPU or CPU, per Studio Atelico.
Its Compute Graphics Scheduler lets AI run alongside rendering without causing frame drops.
Atelico says the setup removes recurring server costs and keeps player data on-device.

Molino frames the engine as ending gameplay trade-offs
CEO Piero Molino says developers no longer must trade off gameplay, performance and creative control.
"The studios that succeed won't be the ones using the most AI, they'll be the ones using AI entirely in service of the player experience." - Piero Molino, CEO, Studio Atelico
NPCs can carry personalities, memories, relationships and motivations that shape later behavior.
In Bobium Brawlers, players describe a creature in text and receive a portrait and playable deck.

Training data, device load and industry sentiment remain open questions
Atelico hasn't disclosed how its language and image models were trained.
Local inference shifts compute load onto players' own hardware, per Creative Bloq.
A 2026 GDC survey found 52% of professionals call generative AI bad for the industry.
That share rose from 30% in the previous year's survey.
What this means
For Publishers & Developers: Revive AI-NPC concepts shelved over per-player inference bills, budgeting for higher minimum device specs.
For Investors & VC: Add training-data provenance and artist-licensing terms to diligence on AI middleware deals.
For Service Vendors: Pitch low-end device performance and thermal QA to studios trialing on-device inference.
