Sokpop Collective

Independent Dutch indie video game development and self-publishing collective based in Utrecht, Netherlands. Four independent developers - Aran Koning, Ruben Naus, Tom van den Boogaart and Tijmen Tio - pool their micro-projects under the Sokpop brand with no formal leadership structure (per en-wiki); the collective began releasing videogames as a unit in 2017 and has been producing two bite-sized games a month on a regular cadence since then, surpassing 100 releases within five years (GameDeveloper, 2022: 'Indie troupe Sokpop Collective on releasing 100 games in five years'). Operates an unusual Patreon-funded model pioneered by the group (covered in their 2019 GDC talk 'One Year of Sokpop Games Subscription on Patreon' with ~1,000 subscribers paying ~$3/month in return for two new games every month, featured in The Verge's 2019 coverage of Patreon as a lifeline for alt-game creators). Surprise breakout hit: Stacklands (2022) - featured among 'best games of 2022' - which scaled into significant Steam revenue despite the collective's micro-game roots. Hybrid model: each title is both developed and self-published by the collective (32 Developed by + 32 Published by Moby credits - nearly 1:1, reflecting full self-publishing pipeline). Independent - no parent corporation. Moby record: 'Sokpop Collective'.
