Naughty Dog pushes Intergalactic reveal to 2027 as Sony funds three concurrent projects
Summary
Naughty Dog will "fully reveal" Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet in 2027, roughly three years after its 2024 Game Awards debut.
The studio has shared almost nothing about the game since that reveal and will stay silent through the rest of 2026.
The same September 2026 announcement confirmed two additional, unnamed The Last of Us projects now in early development alongside Intergalactic.
Sony is currently funding three unreleased first-party projects inside a studio that has not shipped a new game since The Last of Us Part II in 2020.
"The team is heads down on what is shaping up to be Naughty Dog's most ambitious game yet."

A three-year silence ends with a 2027 commitment
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was unveiled at The Game Awards in late 2024.
Since then, Naughty Dog has disclosed only casting details, including lead actor Tati Gabrielle as protagonist Jordan A. Mun.
On September 28, 2026, during its Outbreak Day charity stream, the studio confirmed it will stay quiet on the game through the rest of 2026 and "fully reveal" it in 2027, extending the visibility gap to roughly three years.
Naughty Dog wrapped what it called an "ambitious Intergalactic cinematic shoot" in August 2026, a month before setting the 2027 target, indicating the game is still deep in production rather than release-ready.
"We're going to be quiet for the rest of this year. In 2027, that changes. We'll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet."

Two more Last of Us projects enter development in parallel
The same announcement confirmed two separate The Last of Us projects, both described as being in "very early stages."
Neither project's format, platform, or scope has been disclosed.
Naughty Dog is now staffing three unreleased projects at once, its widest concurrent slate since officially scrapping The Last of Us Online in 2023.
"Both projects will expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II."

Sony underwrites an extended, multi-project runway
A single first-party studio funding one AAA action title and two additional narrative projects, without a release in six years, signals that Sony is financing Naughty Dog's extended pre-production rather than pushing it toward a fixed ship date.
Bloomberg reported in December 2025 that Naughty Dog ordered employee overtime to meet an internal Intergalactic demo deadline, despite the studio's post-Part II pledge to eliminate crunch, showing this runway still carries internal production pressure even without an external release date.
This model, an unproven new IP, three concurrent projects, and no shipped title since 2020, contrasts with publishers that tie studio funding to annual or biennial release cadence.
What this means
For Investors & VC: Naughty Dog has shipped nothing new since 2020 and will not fully reveal Intergalactic until 2027, so Sony's first-party output from this studio stays unproven for years.
For Publishers & Developers: Naughty Dog ordered overtime for an internal Intergalactic demo despite having no external release date, so internal milestones alone can recreate crunch that studios pledged to eliminate.
