Nintendo leaker claims new Smash Bros and Nintendogs in development, pairing 37M-unit core seller with 24M-unit revival
Summary
Leaker Malo932 claims a new Smash Bros - not a port of Ultimate - and a revived Nintendogs are in development
The account correctly called 2026's Star Fox revival, an Ocarina of Time remake, and Nintendo's twin September Directs
Smash Ultimate (37M units) and original Nintendogs (23.96M units) rank among Nintendo's top-selling Switch and DS titles
Neither game was tied to this week's Direct, which Nintendo says targets winter 2026 releases
01
Leaker called four Nintendo reveals before official confirmation
Malo932 claims a new Smash Bros in development - explicitly not a port or Deluxe of Ultimate
The account correctly called 2026's Star Fox revival, an Ocarina of Time remake, and a new Switch Sports title
They predicted Nintendo's two September Directs three days before confirmation
Insider KiwiTalkz separately claims a Smash game could arrive as early as 2027
02
Pairing pattern targets both core and mass-market buyers
Smash Ultimate is Switch's third best-selling game at 37M units, behind Animal Crossing and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Original Nintendogs sold 23.96M on DS, second only to New Super Mario Bros, before going dormant after 2011
Pairing a proven core seller with a dormant mass-market IP echoes Nintendo's hardware-transition playbook
"we would have to shrink the roster"
03
No imminent reveal, but a broad slate is building
None of the claims were tied to this week's Direct, focused on winter 2026 titles
The same leak set includes unconfirmed Super Metroid remake, new Wario Land, and 3D Mario for next year
Sakurai's attachment to any new Smash entry remains unconfirmed
What this means
For Publishers & Developers: a shrunk Smash roster signals licensing renegotiation risk for third-party guest fighters.
For Investors & VC: the core-plus-casual pairing is Nintendo's Switch 2 attach-rate lever - watch for confirmation timing.
