Santa Monica Studio hiring signals new God of War project in early development
Summary
Santa Monica Studio has posted job listings referencing God of War knowledge as a requirement
The listings point to an unannounced title currently in development
Conflicting rumors suggest possibilities ranging from a sequel, prequel, Egypt-set new IP, or remasters
Development is likely targeting next-gen PlayStation given the PS5 lifecycle
"We are seeking a Sr Narrative Designer for the development of a new unannounced title"
01
Job listings hint at new God of War without confirming it
Santa Monica Studio posted at least two job listings referencing God of War knowledge
One Sr. Narrative Designer listing requires "personal understanding of God of War games"
Similar listings surfaced in April and September of the prior year, showing a pattern
Studios routinely embed project hints in job postings to attract the right talent
02
Conflicting rumors make it hard to pin down what is actually in development
A January rumor suggested a game set in Egyptian mythology
An August rumor claimed Santa Monica was building an entirely new IP
Earlier this month, a separate rumor pointed to a God of War prequel
Simultaneously, rumors of a remaster of original God of War titles are also circulating
All of these could coexist, or most could be early-stage ideas that never ship
03
Timing suggests the project is still in early or conceptual stages
God of War Ragnarok launched in 2022, making a full sequel relatively early in its cycle
The PS5 lifecycle and AAA development timelines point to a next-gen PlayStation release
Santa Monica may still be in abstract conceptual development where many ideas will not survive
No official announcements should be expected in the near term
04
What to watch going forward
Any official Santa Monica Studio announcement will be the only reliable signal
Continued hiring patterns across disciplines could indicate a project moving past pre-production
PlayStation State of Play or Sony showcase events remain the most likely announcement venues
