Steam hits record 43.5 million concurrent users, up 4.6% year over year
Steam's concurrent user peak hit 43,505,724 in October 2026, a new all-time record. That is up from 41.6 million a year earlier, a 4.6% year-over-year rise. In-game concurrent players alone topped 14 million, also a platform record. The milestone followed Steam's Autumn sale and several major PC launches in the same week.
A decade of compounding growthSteam's October peak has nearly tripled since 2018, from 16.3 million to 43.5 million.
It grew from 31.3 million in 2023 to 38.1 million in 2024, a sharp jump.
Growth then slowed to a 4.6% rise in 2026, reaching the new 43.5 million record.
Steam's October peak was only 2.9 million as recently as 2010.
Live games and new launches both lifted the ceiling
Counter-Strike 2, Deadlock and Dota 2 were Steam's three most-played titles during the record weekend.
Deadlock remains invite-only, yet a recent update pushed its own peak above 260,000 players.
Control Resonant, The Witcher 3 Remastered and WARDOGS all launched within the same week.
The record also followed the close of Steam's Autumn storewide sale.
Scale cements Steam's structural dominance

"These figures cement the fact that PC gaming has unquestionably become the main way for tens of millions of people worldwide to play." - Damien, Editorial Director, Hookshot Media
One record does not guarantee a surge in play counts for every individual title.
